SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION REGARDING SOAP YOUNG INVESTIGATOR GRANTS
The deadline is December 1, 2016 for SOAP members planning to submit a SOAP 2017 Young Investigator Grant proposal. In 2016, three proposals received funding.
I wanted to clarify some technical issues about the budget and what can be funded, based on issues that came up last year and have been raised this year. This $10,000 grant does NOT include institutional indirect costs. It may be useful to have this clearly stated here so that you can inform your institutions that indirects are not available. Another “budget issue” is that this small, starter grant is not intended to and insufficient for funding salary for the PI or mentor. Although it is impossible to state all the possible appropriate items that could be included in a budget, in general, most will include items such as laboratory supply costs, required specialized software or hardware, partial technician or research coordinator salary, Research Pharmacy charges, statistical consultation, etc.
We look forward to reviewing submissions for the SOAP 2017 Young Investigator Grant.
