SOAP 2026 Fellow Video Challenge – Montréal
The SOAP Patient Education Subcommittee invites all obstetric anesthesia fellows to participate in our Patient Education Video Challenge, taking place at the SOAP Annual Meeting in Montréal, May 2026.
This initiative aims to create fresh, engaging content for thepainlesspush.com, helping pregnant people and their families feel informed, supported, and empowered throughout their birth experience.
Your mission:
- There will be 2 categories for entry– 60s and 120s
- Create a short patient-education video on any aspect of obstetric anesthesia (labor analgesia, cesarean delivery, safety, recovery, etc.).
- A maximum of 2 individual submissions will be allowed per individual fellow, and a maximum of 6 per institution
- Each submission should include a faculty mentor.
- Videos should be clear, engaging, and supportive — designed to help expectant parents feel informed and empowered.
- Videos directed toward non-English speakers are welcome! An English-language translation of your script should accompany your submission.
- Submissions must be original, created within the past 12 months, and not previously displayed publicly.

Video Formatting Guidelines
- Length
- Videos must be either 60 seconds or 120 seconds in total duration (± 5 seconds tolerance).
- Submissions outside of these time limits will not be considered.
- Format
- Accepted formats: .mp4 or .mov
- Orientation: Portrait (9:16) is preferred for social media reels, but Landscape (16:9) accepted if content requires.
- Resolution: 1080p minimum (4K optional).
- Maximum file size: 500 MB
- Audio & Visuals
- Spoken words must be clear and understandable.
- Use of subtitles/captions encouraged, for accessibility.
- Background music, if used, should not overpower narration and must be royalty-free.
- Visuals/graphics must be clear, legible, and free of watermarks.
- Branding & Disclaimers
- No institutional or commercial logos unless pre-approved (submit signed approvals).
- SOAP will add disclaimers and branding before publishing publicly.
- No patient-identifiable information should appear (HIPAA compliant).
- Content
- Content must be original and created by the submitting team.
- Information presented should be accurate, evidence-based, and up to date.
- Patient-centered language is required (inclusive, respectful, at ~6th–8th grade level).
- Submission Process
- Upload via competition portal by deadline February 26, 2026. Submissions will be judged by members of the SOAP Education Committee and Patient Education Subcommittee.
- File name format: LastName_Topic_Duration.mp4 (e.g., Lee_LaborAnalgesia_60s.mp4).
- Each entrant may submit up to 2 videos (one 60s and one 120s).
Competition Rules:
- At least one fellow author or a representative from your institution must attend the SOAP Annual Meeting 2026.
- Avoid references to commercial products or brands.
- The selection of the top 10 submissions will be displayed at the meeting and shared on SOAP’s social media channels.
- Votes will take place during the SOAP Annual Meeting. In-person attendees will receive secure voting instructions by QR code or the SOAP Meeting App. One ballot per SOAP member will be allowed.
- Avoid participation of actual patients and disclosure of any protected health information in accordance with HIPAA. If patients are involved, ensure that your submission is accompanied by a copy of a signed waiver form from your institution in addition to SOAP’s waiver form.
- SOAP reserves the right to use materials in perpetuity across all other SOAP online and social platforms. In the event of withdrawal of consent for use, a formal application must be submitted to the SOAP Board of Directors.
