Overview The 4th University of Washington Obstetric Anesthesia Conference is another joint venture with the University of Washington Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine and the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. The conference will provide all L&D floor providers including anesthesiologists, OB/GYN's, nurse anesthetists, residents, and fellows with one day of CME accredited learning. Presentations from faculty experts will be combined with hands-on workshops using simulations.
The first half of the day explores a variety of important themes in trauma-informed care for labor and delivery patients via lectures, debates, and problem-based discussions. Each presentation will allow ample time for interaction between faculty and conference participants.
During the second half of the day, learners will experience simulations in small group workshops as well as teaching via live models.
Objectives Upon completion of this activity, attendees should be able to:
- Asses the significant consequences of a traumatic birth on the mother, the mother-baby dyad, the child, and society
- Understand and learn to apply the principles of trauma-informed care in obstetrics
- Recognize specific ante-partum maternal risk factors associated with post-partum mental health conditions
