In this edition of SOAP STATs, we want to highlight a few upcoming events and opportunities that may of be interest to our members or their colleagues.  

Please be on the lookout for next month’s SOAP FUNDAMENTALs series, our annual virtual refresher course for those interested in brushing up on their OB anesthesiology knowledge and staying current.   Be sure to register for this amazing lineup of experts and please spread the word to those who might benefit from such an educational opportunity.

If you are going to the ASA annual meeting, be sure to register for the SOAP Research Network Symposium, space is limited.

As always, there is a lot happening at SOAP with our incredibly engaged committees, subcommittees, task forces, and SIGs. Some of our latest activities are described in this message, and you can find more on soap.org.

BOARD STATS 

• To date, there are 51 SOAP State Representatives, and we continue to work towards securing a representative from each state.  SOAP State Representatives will provide a key contact in each state to help us reach a broader audience, as SOAP strives to meet its mission to provide safe and equitable care for women and newborns everywhere. If you know someone who is interested in becoming a SOAP State Representative, please contact SOAP HQ.  
  
  

COMMITTEE STATS 

Annual Meeting and Live Events Committee 

• The 2024 Annual Virtual Highlights was held June 10 & 11. Registrants for the Annual Meeting in Denver and Virtual Highlights can access the recordings in the SOAP Learning Center 
• Registrants for the Virtual Highlights have until Dec. 31, 2024 to earn CME by filling out the evaluations. 

• Future Meetings: 
• The 2025 Annual Meeting will be held April 30 – May 4, 2025, in Portland, Oregon. 
• 2025 Annual Meeting theme: Leveraging Technology for Better Outcomes: Improving Lives of Patients & Clinicians. 

Education Committee 

• Fellows Webinar was held Aug. 14, 3pm ET, hosted by Dr. Emily Naoum, & Dr. Jaime Daly featuring Dr. TJ Biel: Anesthetic Implications of Substance Use on Labor & Delivery.
• Journal Club Classic will be held Sept. 11 at 7:00pm Eastern. Hosted by Dr. Brandon Togioka ft. Dr. Michael Paech: The Volume of Blood for Epidural Blood Patch in Obstetrics: A Randomized, Blinded Clinical Trial.

Diversity Committee 

• Diversity & Inclusivity Award 2024 winner: Cesar Padilla, MD – Stanford University
• Diversity & Inclusivity Mentored Grants winners: Anusha Reddy, MD & Chantal Pyram-Vincent, MD, MPH – Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, & Claudia Sotillo, MD & Pervez Sultan, MBChC, FRCA, MD, Stanford University

Governance Committee 

• Fred Hehre Lecturer for the 2025 Annual Meeting is Medge Owen.
• Ostheimer Lecturer nominations for the 2026 Annual meeting, closed August 23. The nominating subcommittee is reviewing the applications.

Intersociety Committee  

• The SOAP Speaks! database has launched! 17 access forms have been completed and 25 speakers have applied to date. View the database to access vetted SOAP members who are enthusiastic to share their expertise and passion on a variety of topics.
• COE Applications for the 2024 cohort have launched – Deadline: October 15
• Informational webinar will be held Monday, September 9, 6pm EST.

Member Value Committee 

• SOAP Fundamentals will be held September 14 & 21. Registration is open!
• AANA CEU & ASA CME approval has been awarded!
• Save the date for the SOAP Fall Forum: November 13 & 14. 
• Call for Content 2024 Fall Newsletter closed September 1
• Join one of the fifteen Special Interest Groups. To see a full list of the Special Interest Groups visit the SOAP website.  

Research Committee  

• Research Network Symposium to be held at the W hotel Philadelphia during ASA on Sunday, October 20 from 10am – 1pm.
• Submit your Proposal – Deadline: September 6
• Register to attend the Symposium

• Combined net assets for SOAP and the SOAP Endowment were $5.9M as of June 30, 2024. 
• Get ready for ASA in October with SOAP merch! Shop the  SOAP Swag online store featuring SOAP branded merchandise.
